Hmmmmm.....
The beauty of living in a liberal area is - you get to hear all sorts of thing that liberals believe.
Here is a good one - a liberal friend said to me one time, "I can't believe Republicans!" I froze and let him continue, in no way did I want to blow my cover. He continued, "Why do they say we want socialized healthcare? France has government healthcare and they aren't socialist."
Sheesh.
Here is another one, I asked a liberal how they feel about service at the post office because healthcare will be run as efficiently and effectively as the post office,
The liberal response, "The government doesn't run the post office!"
So, I was talking to a liberal this morning at the pool. My cover has been blown, she knows that I am a Reagan conservative. We were talking about possibly losing our local, public pool due to the high costs of operating a pool.
Isn't that sad? So, we were discussing high government spending and we can see the results of it in our liberal area - higher and higher taxes with fewer and fewer services.
So, she said, that high government spending is the result of greed in our culture. And, the greed is a direct result of capitalism.
Do you see the flaws in that argument?
Yes, there are greedy people in the world. I know that.
Duh.
But, most people who go into a for-profit business are providing a valuable good or service to the population. They risk everything for the business. If the business fails, they might lose their house. If the business succeeds, they will pay lots of taxes, employ lots of people and, hopefully, enjoy the fruits of their labor.
How is that greedy? How is it greedy to be paid for working hard. But, somehow the government taking your money to pay obscene salaries to other government employees or to give your money to people who refuse to work - that ISN'T greedy?
Let's recap, liberals are even grasping the concept that our tax and spend government is out of control and needs to stop spending so much. But, inexplicably a liberal will still blame capitalism for government waste and over spending.
Unbelievable!
Capitalism creates goods and services. (Try going to a socialist country and finding the myriad of yummy chip favors that we have here. Ha!). Capitalism employs people. That gives people an income that they can use to live and to buy things.
Best of all (to liberals) capitalistic, profitable companies pay taxes, lots of taxes. Without capitalism THERE WOULDN'T BE A GOVERNMENT.
Who would pay taxes and pay for all of the bloated government programs and salaries if there is no more capitalism?
I have said it before and I will say it again. We need to slash tax rates. Our corporate tax rates, which are designed to punish capitalists, are the highest in the world. Those high tax rates encourage businesses to flee with their jobs to other countries. When tax rates are low, the economy grows, jobs are available and everyone does better.
Even the government.

Can't buy me love
I am so glad that Chelsea Clinton doesn't have to worry about money.
I mean, her parents were broke, right? Poor baby.
But, she can not imagine a situation in which she would ever care about money.
That is so great - because worrying about money is just so tacky. Having to actually pay a mortgage or pay attention to how much you spend at the grocery store is just so - low.
Or, can she even imagine looking at prices on a menu at a restaurant?
How gouache.

The nanny
I spent the evening at the pool. My daughter wanted to go swimming with a friend she met at science camp.
Science camp is the most expensive week of my year. But, my kids love it and I let them each go for one week. As you might imagine, they meet a lot of kids who attend science camp all summer.
So, I sat at the pool with my child's friend's nanny. The nanny is a young, struggling, hard working student. She lives with her girlfriend and we started talking about her life.
The nanny was telling me how hard it is to make ends meet. She can barely afford food, rent, gas, and insurance.
We didn't talk about health insurance at all. But, we did talk about the outrageous cost of food and gas. And, she is barely making it.
I said that it makes me want to pull every drop of gas that we can find out of the ground and light it up. She agreed.
I asked her how she felt about able-bodied people who pull out an EBT card to pay for steak and those yummy margaritas in cans when she can barely afford to pay for her own food. (She actually contemplated turkey bacon as a cost savings.)
She said that it makes her angry.
I asked her what we should do about it.
She said that there should be a time limit. She said that people can have government benefits for 6 months, then they have to be cut off.
I thought that was a good idea and so I decided to share it with you.
Also, I am sharing this with you because young liberals are suffering. Hard working, college students who nanny to make a living can barely afford to feed themselves. They need help, they are looking for a solution.
YOU CAN GIVE THEM THE SOLUTION.
In our conversation we only tackled the idea of how getting our own energy could reduce food and gas costs as a practical solution to her very real, very important needs.
What conversation could you start with a liberal? How can you show simple solutions to complex problems? Of course, every one of our solutions is exactly the opposite of liberal principles. But, young people have lived with liberal policies their entire lives and they see, first hand, the damage that liberal policies have caused in their own lives.
They can't afford food.
This liberal administration that has preached about shared sacrifice while the president parties with Jay-Z in Vegas is making it nearly impossible for young people to buy food.
This socialist government that has preached endlessly about the evils of income inequality is taking away the futures of our young people.
What are you going to do about it?

ISIS
Islamic States of Syria/Levant
That is what it stands for, just so you know.
Followers of Saddam Hussein and the Sunnis who have been marginalized for the past decade or so in the Middle East are behind this latest terrorist surge.
When Saddam fell, so did their hopes and dreams.
Here is what they have that fuels their fight: hate, patience, a self-imposed righteousness.
That is our enemy. They want our way of life to end.
Here is what we have: apathy, tolerance and a bunch of pot-smoking hippies who care more about getting high that they do about saving their own skins.

A victory for ALL of our rights
"Taking personal offense is not an injury that warrants invoking the power of the courts to shut down everything you disagree with,” Baxter also said. “The Constitution is not a personal tool for censoring everyone’s beliefs but your own.”
This is from the ruling of a federal appeals court to the American Atheists who have been suing for 3 years to have a cross removed from the site of the World Trade Center attack in 9/11.
See, the thing is, I don't care if someone is Atheist. I really don't, that is their business. I don't care who they love, who they marry. It just isn't any of my business.
But, when you attack everything upon which this country was founded and attack MY religious freedom, then you start to wake up a sleeping giant. Or the 85% of this country who identify as being Cnristian.
It is kinda like bombing Pearl Harbor and then getting annihilated by Americans
The American Atheists have sued, for 3 years, to have a cross removed form the site of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center which took over 3,000 innocent American lives.
Why?
They are offended.
Being offended isn't a reason to sue. And it isn't a reason to stop all displays, public or private, with which you disagree. And, a court in America is upholding that basic idea of freedom. This could be one baby step toward a return to sanity.
Hallelujah!!!

To fight or not to fight
As with every other war in the history of this great nation, we have something that is worth fighting for. We have a peace-loving, freedom-filled country. On my street, we have a gay couple, we have single moms, inter-racial couples, Jewish people and Christians.
This could only happen here. No where else could this or would this possibly happen, ever. The only thing keeping the Muslim from killing every gay person is the armed Christian standing between them.
When all innocent, freedom-loving citizens are disarmed, who will protect the varying factions from terrorism?
There was a line of thought from about the Second World War until the Korean War that we should have just minded our own business. Yup. We could have saved billions of dollars, thousands of lives if we had just let the communists and Nazis kill each other. Then, we could have gone in at the end and annihilated the winner.
Good idea, right?
And it could be a plausible one. Or, there is the idea of protecting ourselves and not fighting unless absolutely necessary. A war weary America (we are always war weary, we go to war begrudgingly, unwillingly and as an absolute last resort, we are so fortunate to have young men and women who are willing to sacrifice everything to preserve the American way of life) defeated communist Russia by Reagan's "peace through strength." By arming ourselves, walking softly and carrying a big stick, we were able to defeat communism.
This time around, the liberals have had the complete run of the show. There has been no conservative influence in federal politics for 6 years. Obama has ensured that by refusing to even acknowledge that Republicans exist. Talk to them? Ha!
How is that working out? We have apologized for our exceptionalism. We have disarmed. We have let our enemies know that we don't want to fight, we want only peace.
Has that made the world safer? Is there more peace?
Or is the world in the biggest mess that it has ever been in?
We had done a good job in Iraq. After winning wars in Germany, Japan and making a peace accord in Korea, we made PEACE AGREEMENTS. We left troops there, planned an exit strategy and the enemy agreed to stop fighting.
Pulling out troops without any sort of agreement or plan isn't winning, it isn't even ending a war, it is fleeing from the battlefield. (See previous post "Show your stripes.")
And, I get it. I actually have family members, from every generation who have fought in wars. The thought of losing one of them - the sickness that I feel each time we lose a soldier. When I see those grieving family members, it is unbearable.
A solder wearing an American flag is a solder who is fighting for freedom anywhere he or she is. He or she is an honorable, noble warrior and I am proud to belong to the same flag.
But, should we sacrifice these brave men and women? Or should we wake up and arm ourselves? How about if we take all those returning soldiers and don't get them jobs as managers and clerks - how about if we employ them right here as SOLDIERS?!?!?
They could help seal up the border. They could help us arm ourselves. They could get us all ready.
Now, am I totally missing what is going on? Or, is that a good idea? What do you think?
