Christmas choir practice started last week. There is nothing I like better than 3 solid months of belting out Christmas songs. I sound really good, completely surrounded by a choir full of competent singers.
That got me thinking about the war on Christmas. This year, we have had a war on Christians. Christians are being slaughtered all over the world.
Yet here, we have liberals in this country who actually are more offended by someone saying "Merry Christmas" than they are by the beheading of a human being.
Who is so offended by the word Christmas? How did we get to be a country of Christians who can't even say the word Christmas, a holiday that most of the country celebrates?
Here is a helpful word bank for your use during this tricky holiday season:
1. Christmas card - a card sent once a year to recognize the holiday commemorating the birth of Jesus. This is not a "winter" card, a "holiday" card or a "seasonal" card,
2. Christmas carol - a song sung during the Christmas season to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Note use of word "carol." There is no such thing as a "holiday" carol. On what other holiday are carols sung? It is also not a winter carol,
3. Christmas tree - a tree that is placed in the Christian home to commemorate the birth of Jesus. This is not a "holiday" tree. Name one holiday, other than Christmas, when you chop down a pine tree and stick it in the living room. Can't think of any? That is why it is a Christmas tree,
4. Christmas decorations - decorations in a red and green theme that are placed around the home to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Name one other holiday that uses the predominantly red and green theme. Hmmmm, nope, can't think of one,
5. Christmas cookies - cookies in the shapes of:
-stars to depict the star that led the wise men to the birthplace of Jesus
-trees to depict the aforementioned Christmas trees
-Santa Claus, the saint who gave Christmas gifts to celebrate the birth of Jesus, and
-bells, which rang to proclaim the birth of Jesus.
Be prepared, this is only the beginning, I am sure there will be much more to write about the war on Christmas.
In the meantime, have a holly jolly, ho-ho happy, marshmallow, evergreen, winter solstice holiday day.
